Whether you’re training for the Olympics or working to become the best in your field of work, success doesn’t come overnight. The same goes for your exercise program. You can have the best trainer in the world, and the best diet to follow, but if you do not stick with it consistently, you will wind up spinning your wheels. This can be very frustrating for someone who is trying to hit a goal. People tend to be impatient when it comes to exercise, not giving their exercise plans enough time to reap the benefits they are looking for.
No matter how good your current training program may be, or how perfect a diet you have planned to follow, none of it matters if you are not consistent in your training and nutrition habits. Someone who consistently follows a bad training program will likely see better results than a person who is spotty with their commitment to a good training program. Consistency really is the key to lifelong fitness.
The longer you are consistent with your training the better you will become mentally and physically. The more you train, the greater amount of experience you obtain. And, as with anything in life, experience is the greatest teacher. With experience usually comes knowledge and the ability to relate to or handle certain situations. In terms of training, you may run into times when your training is not going well, you feel unmotivated, or even worse, you get injured. These are the times when experience really pays off.
Instead of ignoring your body’s signs and “toughing it out” your experience tells you that you are doing something wrong and you need to re-evaluate what you’re doing and possibly take some time to rest. Sometimes "biting the bullet" and relying on your previous experience is the best bet. It might not be the quickest solution but in the long term it is the best decision to continue longevity in your training.
