Hydration Elevation: Water that Packs a Punch

Hydration Elevation: Water that Packs a Punch

This may come as a surprise, okay, probably not – but, water can be kind of boring. And yes, we preach at you a lot about how important it is to drink a lot of it. So, it’s only fair that we give you a few tips to help make all that water a little easier to swallow.

Spa Water
Make every day a spa day by dressing up your water with cucumber. Cucumbers are mostly water themselves, but they’re also loaded with antioxidants and minerals that are good for connective tissue, like your skin. In fact, when you’re done using them to flavor your water, slap them on your face for a mini spa treatment. Just wash the cucumber, cut it into thin slices and drop it directly into the water.

Mint Condition
Grab a few sprigs of mint at the supermarket and drop them in your water for a super refreshing sip of H2O. Mint gets bonus points for freshening your breath after that tuna salad you had at lunch (in hindsight, that maybe wasn’t the best choice before a big meeting.) It also has soothing properties that can help ease an upset stomach. The way we see it, there’s basically no good reason not to put mint in your water.

We take back what we said before. Leave the sprigs, just grab the whole mint plant. If you like the taste of mojitos, you’ll love the combo of lime and mint in your water. Toss in a couple lime wedges and some mint leaves and you’ll be enjoying all the flavor of a mojito (without the calories and risk of a hangover the next day.) To really amp up the flavor, get muddling!

Pucker Up
When life gives you lemons…put them in your water! Lemons are often touted as a “super fruit” and for good reason. They are packed with vitamin C to help boost the immune system, and lemons also have anti-inflammatory properties and aid in digestive health. Change things up a bit and enjoy your lemon water hot. Research suggests that drinking warm lemon water first thing in the morning helps rehydrate your body, kick-start your digestive system, and acts as a natural detoxifier. So many reasons to be sweet on lemons.

Berry Tasty
We love this one because it’s a delicious way to flavor your water with minimal effort. If you’re like us, you always have frozen berries in the freezer. Turns out, frozen berries make excellent flavored ice for your water. Add a handful of your favorite frozen fruits to your water, and when you’re done, enjoy them as part of a healthy snack. To add an extra burst of berry flavor, let your berry water soak overnight in the fridge.

9Round’s nutrition guidelines recommend drinking at least one gallon of water each day. While this can seem like a daunting task, dressing up your water can help. Especially if you’re trying to give up soda or other sugar and calorie-laden beverages. Read more about the virtues of proper hydration here
